Little Stretton
Little Stretton is a pleasant half hour walk from Church Stretton to Little Stretton along the Ludlow Road. This walk provides lovely views of the Long Mynd to the right and Ragleth Hill to the left. As you pass the sheep meadows look to your left to see if you can spot the earthworks of Brockhurst Castle now partly obscured by trees. The castle was constructed during the 12th century to command the route towards Shrewsbury. You can take a footpath back to Church Stretton by walking towards the Small Batch camp site and turning right just before the ford onto the Millennium footpath which follows the valley back to Church Stretton. This footpath briefly descends back onto Ludlow Road half way back and then goes up into the woods leading to the top of Cunnery Road. You can enter Rectory fields from here to stroll back into town.
There are also footpaths which hikers can take from Little Stretton to walk to the top of the Long Mynd or they can cross the A49 and climb up Ragleth Hill. These paths can be found on the Yellow walk maps, Around & About the Long Mynd and Around & About Caer Caradoc which can be purchased at the Visitor Information Centre, Outdoor Depot and Burway Books.
