Acton Burnell Castle (8 miles)

The red sandstone shell of a semi-fortified tower house, built between 1284-93 by Bishop Burnell, Edward I's Lord Chancellor. Parliaments were held here twice, in 1283 and 1285

Acton Scott Historic Working Farm (3 miles)


The Acton Scott Historic Working Farm was the location for the TV series "Victorian Farm". There are 22 acres of land worked by shire horses and skilled manpower, demonstrating how a mixed South Shropshire farm would have been managed around 1890. Traditional crafts are demonstrated and there is a picnic area and cafe. The farm livestock includes breeds which were popular in the area 100 years ago. It is open from Easter to the end of October.

Arriva Trains Wales


The principal service is between Cardiff and Manchester, with connections at Shrewsbury for Birmingham, London, Chester and North Wales, and at Crewe for Liverpool and other mainline services. Newport provides connections to London Paddington and the south west. The Heart of Wales line service operates to Swansea direct.
